As in all things, not everyone is cut out to perform all types of duties. Some people, through choice and/or due to physical limitations, are unable to perform the tasks required to be “riding” members. Rest assured, we welcome these people also! There are MANY duties involved in keeping an organization running, from administrative details to supporting firefighters and EMS personnel on fire scenes. In addition, many people aren’t sure they can stand to perform the tasks which may be demanded of them as active firefighters/EMS personnel; by joining as an administrative member you can get to know the people and duties of the fire service and decide what your role should be, while still availing yourself of the numerous benefits offered.
Fire members are trained in fire suppression and respond on the apparatus to emergency calls. Many Fire members also have training in Emergency Medical Services. All applicants to the company will serve a 6 month probationary period. Applicants without any previous training will remain in probationary status until basic firefighter training & other probationary requirements have been completed.
Fire requirements while on probation:
EMS membership is for individuals who only wish to ride our ambulance in a Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) capability. All EMS members are required to have or obtain Maryland EMT and become credentialed through Queen Anne’s County. This also includes a drug screening. Paramedics seeking ALS credentials will also complete a clearance process through Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services. All applicants to the company will serve a 6 month probationary period. Applicants without any previous training will remain in probationary status until successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician class & other probationary requirements have been completed.
EMS requirements while on probation:

All Associate Members shall be required to earn 20 points as determined by the LOSAP and Maryland Income Tax Programs. Associate Members may not vote in the election of Officers or be able to hold office.
Not looking to participate as an operational Fire/EMS member of the department? There are many ways you can lend your passion for volunteering, background and experience to the CHVFD. We are always seeking volunteers for administrative and support roles — including administrative management, financial support, event support, community engagement, education and more. Administrative members must earn a minimum of 25 points as determined by the LOSAP and MD Income Tax Program, but must earn at least 50 points to be credited for a year of service and to be eligible for the MD Income Tax Program. All applicants to the company will serve a 6 month probationary period.
Must be 13-16 years old at the time of application. A Parent/Guardian must sign the application. Junior Members shall not be allowed to participate in any hazardous situations, nor be allowed to ride the apparatus during emergencies. When requested, they can report to the fire house and assist with any duties required. Under direct supervision of the Chief or Company officer, they may be allowed to participate in drills, parades or other Company functions.
